Intro to Rick's Bar Scene Analysis

 The first shot of the introduction uses camera movement of the camera entering the bar that creates immersion for the viewer and importance that the bar will be the main setting for a large part of the film. Bright lighting is also used to show the vibrancy but also areas of shade hinting at the fact that the bar is used as front to conduct crime behind by the people of casablanca it's also represented by the use of the spotlight as entering the bar the spotlight isn't able to track you anymore. The two shots are also used to focus on the speakers where also the ones with the lack of dialogue have their back turned. By not immediately cutting to the the second shot of the two men to a far away shot of the pianist then to the two men makes the cut more seemless and less rapid and disjointed. Plot Twist High Maintenance

The short film High Maintenance uses plot twists twice. The first plot twist is more logical and and foreshadowed more through the mention of 'mechanical' and the actions of the husband being uncanny however the second plot twist is more surprising as it is more unexpected as the wife is more human through being more emotionally expressive and a robot ordering another robot isn't usual yet it is foreshadowed as the second husband repeats the dialogue of the wife at the beginning.

Donnie Darko film review

 Donnie Darko is a 2001 american cult classic that is a mix of the genres of sci fi mystery surrealism and psychological thriller that tells the story of a troubled teen that narrowly escapes death and the weeks after that event, exploring themes of time travel, philosophy, love and rebellion.  The films narrative pacing of a mystery is unconventional as a majority of the questions thay are set up the viewers may question aren't answered and is up to the viewer to figure out and interpret and may not be understand the majority of the premace in the first viewing as it presents multiple ideas and themes that work on its own but doesn't tie into the main narrative that is to say it isn't not enjoyable in the first viewing as the well shot scenes, jokes and the sense of comfort of following Donnie's life can capture the viewer from start to finish. Pitch Black Heist Review

 The short film Pitch Black Heist conforms to the heist genre by providing conventional scenes for a heist and hitting main story beats of planning introduction and a tense heist scene and a sacrifice yet the latter half is subverted to become a family drama as revealed that the protagonists are father and son and the heist was used as revenge to the father. The production also diverts from expected heist scenes as the entirety of the heist is purely audio.
